What?! We have 8 days off, which means we can sleep in for the entire week. OMG…I can’t believe my eyes. How can I be so lucky and why do I deserve such a long holiday?

The National Day
The National Day of China falls on October 1st every year. Therefore，it is also known as “shi yi”，which literally means “ten one” respectively standing for the month October and the date 1st. During this Festival, the whole nation would have three days off so as to have national celebration since 1950. The Chinese government has decided to extend the National holidays from 3 days to 7 days since 2000. As the holiday is quite long, some of us usually make good use of the holiday by visiting family members or hanging on with friends who haven’t seen each other for a long time while the others going shopping or travelling during the holiday. In other words, we can put little ticks on precious things which are on our “to do” lists but never got the time for completing them before. Therefore, the holiday is also known as “the Golden Week”.

Mid-Autumn Festival
Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th of the 8th lunar month, when the moon is said to be the brightest and fullest all over the year. To celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinese people usually do two things: enjoy the full moon and eat delicious mooncakes. Mooncakes are to Mid-Autumn Festival what turkey are to Thanksgiving. For Chinese people, a round mooncake symbolizes the reunion of all family members. Therefore, we usually have one day off in Mid-Autumn Festival to accompany our family members.
